*heres a bit of my new story for you to enjoy.... rest might be up later!!!*I remember the first time I saw him, sitting alone in a chair at Starbucks, probably waiting for his order. He didn’t fit into the category most women put handsome men. No, his was more of a subtle beauty. Auburn hair reaching just below his ear lobes and streaked with gold from the light coming through the window, almond eyes peering through a set of glasses that rested on his nose, a wide set jaw, thin lips, and a narrow nose were all intently pointed into whatever book he had clenched between two sets of long fingers. He wore a dark green t-shirt that clung to the contours of his chest and arms, and a pair of black jeans that he wore in the style of young teenagers now-a-days, meaning they weren’t tight but neither were they loose. From what I could see from my spot in the hectic line was that his whole body was just thick and wiry with male.
It wasn’t just his appearance that made him stand out to me. It was more how he sat there, motionless, concurrently ignoring everything around him while soaking it all in like a sponge. I was amazed when he moved slightly to the left to give a women carrying four espressos more room without even twitching an eyebrow. I finally made it to the front of the line, all the time staring at him, whoever he was.
It was like I was mesmerized, caught in a trance. Before I knew it I was walking over to his table clutching whatever drink my brain had ordered for me. He didn’t so much as glance up as I sat down, he just kept on reading what turned out to be a fantasy tale with a centaur depicted on the front cover.
“Can I help you?” I jumped and spilled a few drops of what turned out to be iced coffee on my hand when he spoke. His voice was unlike nothing I had ever heard before. It was low and coarse and slightly lilted, but something about it was almost musical.
“Oh! Sorry, I wasn’t really paying attention to where I was going to be honest.” I chuckled softly and smiled but he still didn’t look up. “Is that book any good?”
“Yes.”
“So, what’s it about?” I tried one more time to get his attention.
He slowly raised his head and looked at me. His eyes were the clearest shade of gray I have ever seen and were framed by think eyelashes. He smiled a little and his face softened up. “Do you really want to know?” I nodded and leaned closer.
It was like changing from night to day. His stern expression softened up, his eyes brightened, and his smile grew and grew until he was laughing. I listened intently as he told me about all the magical beings held between the pages of his book, and at some point I caught myself laughing along with him. When he was done with that one he began to tell me about another one of his favorites and from there on the cycle continued. When I took the chance to glance at my watch I realized that I had been sitting in that coffee shop talking with him for over an hour.
“I’ve never met anyone who was so… enthusiastic when it came to books.” I chuckled and he turned a slight shade of pink.
“It’s because they make you feel like a child again. They open up our hearts to things we may not know ever existed. Oh! I can let you borrow this one if you want.” He held it out to me and I hesitated before taking it.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course. I have read it anyways.” He picked up his bag and stood up. “Darn, I have classes soon. I’ll see you later.”
“Wait!” I grabbed his elbow lightly. “Would you like to meet me for dinner somewhere? You can choose the place, so how about when you are done?”
“Sure, that sounds good, actually. I get out at six so I’ll see you at Michaels.” He left the shop and I saw him glance back at me before running down the sidewalk. I held the book to my chest and sat down again. My heart would not stop pounding.
*SO! tell me what you think so far*
